Speaker The Reverend Dr. Alvin Hathaway
‘Historic Preservation as Economic Development’
Members and Friends of PABC are invited to gather at the historic Monkton Manor Mill on Thursday, October 5th.
There will be a brief business meeting, awards, a dinner, and then our keynote speaker, The Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway, Sr., who will be presenting ‘Historic Preservation as Economic Development: Culturally Sensitive & Relevant Community Economic Development.”
We are honored to have Reverend Hathaway as our speaker this year. He is the President/CEO of Union Baptist Church – School, Inc. and Beloved Community Services Corporation, through which he is restoring Justice Thurgood Marshall’s Elementary School, along with several other significant historic buildings in Baltimore through a multi-phase, multi-million dollar redevelopment program.
He is also one of the founding principals of African Ancestry Neuroscience Research Initiative. He is also the founder of Act Now Baltimore, a faith based community action network.
Reverend Hathaway, now retired, was the 10th Pastor in Union Baptist Church’s 170-year history. He was inducted into the prestigious Morehouse College of Preachers in 2012. He was given an audience with Pope Francis in 2015. He was inducted into the 2021 Class of Baltimore Sunpapers Business and Civic Hall of Fame. He was recognized in 2021 by The Daily Record as an Influential Marylander. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. awarded him its Civic Engagement Award in 2022.
Reverend Hathaway has two terminal degrees: Ph. D. in Philosophy of Religion from The North Carolina College of Theology and Doctor of Ministry degree from the United Theological Seminary. He earned his Masters of Arts in Church Ministries and a Certificate in Urban Ministry from Saint Mary’s Seminary and University.
Reverend Hathaway is also the author of numerous books and articles, and he co-hosts a podcast, with philanthropist Martin Knott, entitled, ‘He’s Holy, I’m Knott.’ For more information, please go to: http://www.facebook.com/alhathaway
